Frequently Asked Questions

Permits
Do I need a planning permit?
This depends on your local council. You don't need a planning permit to buy any of your building parts including your Quon modules. You will need advice from your builder, an architect or directly from council to see if your modules require a permit to be assembled on site.

Do I need a building permit?
Like buying a tap, a light fitting or a kitchen from Ikea, you don't need a building permit to purchase modules from Quon.
However when you install your modules on site, you or your builder may need a permit, depending on your local legislation.

Do I need an engineer?
You will need an engineer when you and your builder install the modules onsite. Your engineer will recomend footings based on your sites unique soil conditions.

What will the engineer need to do?
Your engineer will need to have a soil report completed on your site and design footings to suit. Your builder will then need to construct the footings and connect the modules.

Installation
Who arranges power and water?
Quon modules are completed with standard plumbing fittings. Like your footings however, your builder will need to arrange for a plumber and electrician to connect your Quon Modules to the site.

Who arranges power, water, phone and other services?
Quon modules are pre-wired, plumbed and fitted. Quon recommend a licensed trades person to arrange connections.

Do I need to insure the goods whilst they are being transported?
That is an issue between you and your builder or the transport company that is employed. Quon takes no responsibility for the modules once the builder / transport company are signed over the Modules at pick up. Quon can refer you to a transport company, however we recommend that you commission your builder to coordinate the delivery and installation of your modules.

How is installation carried out?
Your builder or transport company will deliver and install it.

How strong is Quon?

Can I add to my dwelling once it is on the site?
Absolutely. Quon is very adaptable, inviting scenarios which suit changes within society, for example; modules are added over time as family size grows. We also imagine that when the kids move out the redundant modules could be removed, re-located or re-sold giving the parents back some outdoor space and some spare cash.

Can you add Quon modules to an existing dwelling?
We love the idea of connecting Quon to an existing building. Renovations and extensions typically take far too long. Quon Modules are well suited to orientation within a typical back yard and with a small amount of fuss can be added to the rear of your house.

Can the roof be trafficable, can we use it as a deck?
A timber deck and handrail can be added to make the roof trafficable. It is not recommended that decks be installed without the prior knowledge of Quon. Quon needs to know of this detail prior to manufacture to ensure that minor modifications are made to suit the addition of a deck and handrail.
